Citing the need to remain politically neutral, the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association has canceled the 2016 tour of a California couple who have been longtime spokespersons for the RV lifestyle.
Amy and Brad Herzog launched a kickstarter campaign earlier this summer to promote "D is for Dump Trump—An Anti-Hate Alphabet book." The Herzogs wrote and illustrated the "picture book for adults."
The couple has promoted RV travel during 17 summers on the road with their two sons, giving hundreds of local television interviews and writing numerous blog posts. Brad Herzog, in an email to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency news service, said the couple never mentioned the book during their work and did not use their position as industry spokespeople to talk about it. http://bit.ly/2a1owwS
In a statement on RVIA's website, the association says it was a difficult decision.
"As RV industry spokespersons, the Herzogs' campaign to merchandise a political book that does not meet the nonpartisan position of our organizations distracted from our core value of political neutrality," the statement said. "To clarify our position, the decision to suspend the tour was based solely on the tone and content of the Herzogs's book. Regardless of the candidate or political affiliation depicted, we would have arrived at the same decision."
